The impact of multitasking on teaching and learning and thinking.

The impact of multitasking while teaching is the fact that it affects the students and there ability to stay focused. If you are not fully focused on the students, they will know that and they will not be fully focused on you as well. For myself if i want something done right I have to give it my devoted attention or it will not be my best work. I feel that same applies to my students. If I want to truly be helpful to them I need to give them all of my attention. I think as a teacher you need to plan your day accordingly. There for you have set times to get things done.

  1. Planning is definitely a huge part of keeping your students focused and working happily. In the video they mention using laptops in the classroom. Do you think they are a good note taking too or a big distraction vessel?

  2. I agree that students don't always do their best work when multitasking. I know I don't. I also agree that planning can be really helpful when done properly.

  3. I agree that it will affect the students learning if the teacher is not focus. I am not a good at multitasking, so I know that if I was not focused it would not be my best work.

  4. I understand what you have said about giving your students the most that you can by not multi-tasking. However there are benefits to doing so. Teachers have a lot of responsibility and many tasks each day. Multi-tasking can make your life easier and keep you on top of things.

    1. I agree with you, and I think that effective multitasking has a lot to do with time management. If you are able to multitask and get what you need done in a timely manner then I think it can be a good quality to have.

  5. I agree that students are not focused at all multitasking. I also like how you gave examples in your own life.

  6. I agree students who are not focused will fail miserable at multitasking. I am horrible at multitasking so I would fail.

  7. I agree that students normally can't focus well while multi-tasking in class and that they need to give you their full attention to benefit the most from class. However, I don't know what grade you plan to teach or what level, but I know for me wanting to be an early childhood teacher that I will have to multitask to a certain extent. Each student deserves your attention, and I plan to give that, but with some other things in class while teaching I know I will have to multitask to stay on top of things. I'll just have to learn the balance. You have good views though.

  8. I completely agree with you. The teacher's main focus should be the students. They can't be teaching a lesson and doing something else at the same time. The students will get off topic and the lesson could just go down the drain at that point.
